I am an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Barry University, a Catholic University in Miami Shores, Florida. My research analyzes the nature of power in political philosophy concentrating specifically on the works of Machiavelli, Spinoza, Deleuze and Foucault. Focusing on a notion of force as the concrete effect of the action of differentials, I analyze the political practices following from institutional frameworks from a non-teleological historical viewpoint. I am currently completing a book-length project on Machiavelli titled, A War of One’s Own: Mercenaries, Auxiliaries and Mixed Forces in Machiavelli. Here I examine power as the non-substantive effect of historical difference. As such my work is especially relevant to political science discussions of the possibility for radically democratic participatory actions within totalitarian modern state frameworks.
